It seems like my kids are constantly writing now. My daughter just turned six; she started reading and writing last school year. She writes us the sweetest notes and leaves them for us to find around the house. Our son is turning four next month. He gets a kick out of writing long combinations of letters and laughing hysterically as we do our best to sound them out! How fun would it be for them to have personalized notebooks that they decorated themselves to write all of these wonderful things in?

Summer at our house means long days of swimming and playing with our friends, late dinners and even later bedtimes.  That is wonderful during June and July but now that August is coming to an end the lazy days of summer are quickly coming to a close.   It is time to gear up for the school year and the busy days and nights of extracurriculars, homework and shorter days.  That means as much as we hate to do it, it is time to get back into the Fall routine.

Who doesn't love a party? My twins turned 4 this month and were in full birthday party planning mode all summer. So they were very excited to receive the Melissa and Doug Bake & Decorate Cupcake Set. This set allows children to decorate the plastic tops of wooden cupcakes using markers that look like icing tubes. The set also comes with cupcake wrappers, candles that stick on top of the cupcakes, and an oven mitt. The cupcakes can be decorated over and over because the marker can be wiped off the cupcake top with a napkin or baby wipe.

There seems to be a natural progression in camping with children. As a young couple with only one small child we were able to squeeze into a small pup tent, cook on the open fire, enjoy the nature walks all while being oblivious to the bugs, humidity and lack of sleep!! Ah, to be young again.
