for Ages 3 years and up with Adult Participation and Supervision
One of my favorite times of the year is fall. I live in Michigan so I get the beautiful fall leaf color change. And with the changing colors and falling leaves the summer birds leave for warmer weather. But our winter birds stay. And so I dedicate this Welcoming Fall project to the feathered friends.
Supplies:
- Melissa and Doug Bird House Kit
- Extra paint brushes (1 for each child)
- Cup to rinse paint brushes
- Paper towels to dry paint brushes
Time Needed: 15 minutes + drying time
Instructions:
- Lay out something to protect painting surface.
- Divide up wood for children to paint.
- Let children paint the wood pieces. I gave my kids the theme of "things that come to mind when I say Fall".
- Let painted wood dry over night.
- Put bird house together.
- Hang outside for feather friends to enjoy.
For Younger Children and Children with Special Needs:
Assist your child as much as needed - but allow it to be their project. Let the child decide what colors to paint with and allow them to paint.

Love the birdhouse. It came out really nice. This is something my youngest would love to do for sure.
Thanks Rob! My kids really enjoy nature so for them it's not only fun but it also teaches them to care for other species.
