Textured Butterfly Craft for Kids

 textured butterfly craft for kids

Supplies Needed
  • Colored Cotton Balls
  • Sequins
  • White Glue
  • Sheet of Foam Paper (we used yellow)
  • Foam Paper or Construction Paper in Shape of Butterfly - butterfly template (print landscape)
  • 2 gems (optional)
  • Newspaper To Keep The Work Area Clean
Time Needed:
  • 20 Minutes plus drying time
What To Do:
  1. Print and cut out butterfly template and glue to yellow foam sheet.

  2. Apply a liberal amount of glue where you'd like your sequins to go.

  3. Pour sequins over the glue. Pat down firmly with palm of hand. Wait 10 seconds. Lift foam sheet so that excess sequins fall away.
HINT: Do this on newspaper or over a bin so you can easily put away and reuse the excess sequins.

  4. Apply glue along the center of the butterfly for the body and press yellow cotton onto it.

  5. Cover the rest of the butterfly with the colored cotton using glue.
    HINT: Use a mirror pattern

  6. Repeat for each color cotton you want to use.
  7. OPTIONAL: Glue on 2 gems for antennae.
  8. Let dry completely.
  9. ENJOY! You're done! Show it off by hanging your masterpiece on the wall, or stand it up on a shelf!

Hello, again! Happy Saturday!
My daughter's 1st grade class made these butterflies right after they completed their butterfly projects. The teacher did an awesome job with each student. She even hung each little butterfly up in the classroom for Open House night. It was so beautiful!
Oh, by the way....MommyBKnowsBest! I love her blog!
