Why We Love Crafts for Kids:
Art develops creative thinking, provides means of communication and self expression, increases self understanding, strengthens self concepts and confidence, serves as an emotional release, provides decision-making opportunities, develops appreciation for the individuality of others, aids physical coordination, develops work habits and a sense of responsibility, heightens aesthetic awareness and sensitivity, and generates joy!

For Children with Special Needs:
Assist your child as much as needed - but allow it to be his project.  Art projects are great for fine motor exercise, and using creativity.

If your child has a limited attention span, have all supplies ready before having him begin the project.

This opportunity for hands-on learning with no wrong choices is ideal to foster self esteem as well.

This is a great sensory activity. The Kool Aid smells very strong and the rice has a great texture and makes noise when handled. If your child enjoys sensory activities let him spend some time stirring up the rice and then later playing with it once it's dry. You can use sand toys, just handle it, pour and scoop etc. The colors, smells, sound, and feel will make this a very enjoyable activity!

Let him be proud of his very own creation! Display it in a prominent place in your home so he can be reminded of the beautiful creation he made and of how capable he is.

For Older Children: An older child might enjoy making a pattern on the heart using the different colors separately!

Associated Educational Activities:
And now a word from SeeryusMama "READ 'The Runaway Bunny' by Margaret Wise Brown which is about a Mother's unconditional love for her little bunny! When a young bunny decides to run away from home, his mother follows him to the ends of the earth to make sure he knows she loves him. A wonderful classic that's great to read at bedtime and a great read for Valentine's Day too!"
